Hi,

Your help & advice wanted, please.

Do you recognise these speakers & if so what is your opinion of them.

I am not bothered if they are 'crap' as I want your opinions, good or bad.

Thanks,

willie

Infinitys use to be a great speaker till Harman Intl bought them. They may be a nice speaker but nothing like they use to be.

I'd want to hear them and I'd read lots of reviews. They are certainly attractive and while most of the Infinities sold in the big box stores these days are pretty run of the mill some of them still have some legacy qualities. Last winter I sold a pair of Infinity Primus 360 towers, probably even newer than those Alphas, and they were actually a very impressive speaker! Imaged well, solid bass with balanced mid and treble, effortless even at high volumes. If I hadn't been bitten by the "vintage" bug I *never* would have sold them.

Anyway similar to those Alpha's in intended market, design, price, and probably sound as well. Stereophile had a glowing review of the ones I had which make me wonder if those Alpha's might also be "budget sleepers"?

PS The guy that bought them must have found them in a scratch and dent sale because google suggests that CC used to sell those for around $1000 a pair and once (according to the Polk forums) had them on sale for US$599.

I wouldn't write them off just because they are newer, sold in a big box store and yet commanded a reasonable price.

Hi
I would listen to them also; but remember there is more to a speaker than sound. Like longevity. If you can't listen to them. I wouldn't buy them. But that is just my opinion. Why don't you check out some Epos. See if you like them.

I have some of these, the alpha 40's, 20's, and interlude 60's and 10's, and the three way centers for them.

The alphas are nice and punchy, crystal clear sound as long as the cones/domes aren't damaged. The 50's have terrific bass performance down to 35 hz, but they really need to be coupled with a sub - the alpha 1200s is a terrific addition to these.
I like the 40's, and the 20's do really well for a small bookshelf - you'd be surprised at the output you can get.

I have them powered off a sony es receiver with 150w.
Interlude 60's beat the alpha 50's by FAR
