Well i tore into my newly acquired Magnapan SMGa's and found pretty much what i knew i would. For those of you that do not know maggies are essentially a mylar film with wires bonded to it. The wires are the VC and the mylar is the cone for your round speaker types :>) Then their is a bed of magnates on one side a coke and that's about it. As usual for older maggies the tweeter side of things has gone bad. What this entails is to remove and replace all the tweeter wire. Not fun and time consuming but maggies are worth it. this will be my second set.

- Do have to say other than the tweeter wire these are in excellent condition.

Here is what they look like all together...

At the top of this picture you can see the thin tweeter wire that needs removed, the mylar completely cleaned and the tweeter wire re-glued and covered...

Acetone used for cleaning and removing old wires. Mylar super clean and ready to go with materials needed. spray glue to place the wire, and then a coat of JP's special stuff from Magnapan...

Bah, my Maggies have been naked for nearly two years now. There's much to appreciate in a design where sonics are the only consideration, not looks. Nice to know the money is going to maximizing the quality of the sound instead of Ferrari paint jobs, exotic wood, and lots and lots of shiny chrome/brass/gold plate.

So, Kelly, where's the rest of the pictures? Taking a break?

JP, just got done with both of them. Looking forward to hearing them tomorrow. Your kit appears to have plenty of life left in it, lots of wire and the Milloxane. Send me your address again and I'll ship it back to you. Many thanks for the use of it.

- what other pix did you want to see?

Well, I was thinking of the tweeter after application of the Miloxane and perhaps how you hold the end of the mid/bass VCs in place while fixing delamination (some of those bottom loops look like they're starting to pull up and are nearly ready to let go). And, well, just more pictures anyways. There aren't too many good pics out there of Maggie and her twin in nude.

Glad to hear that there's still some goodies left in that kit. I hope to make use of it again shortly, with any luck. That little kit got a lot of mileage out of it. What did you use for aluminum solder (surely the little chunk in there was used up long ago).

Looks about the same with the milloxane on it. The mid bass wires are all intact. Yes it looks like the ends are lifting but I think it has been that way since day one as they are still very much covered in whatever goop they used and they look totally undisturbed.

Did you try pushing down slightly on them? Sometimes the Miloxane can look intact, but will crumble under slight pressure. In that situation, they'll start rattling on their own anyways. Happened with my MG-Is when the phantom rattles struck back.

I re checked them and you may be right. I worked them over a little. Thanks.
