Who runs either a bi amp or tri amp set-up?
Is it passive or active?
Horizontal or vertical biamping?
What benifits have you discovered?
Any pitfalls?

I don't know if it is bi-amping or not but I run two Sons of Ampzilla out of my Thoebe to two sets of speakers, keeps it all in 8 ohms, even though the Sons are stable to 2 ohm.

I do and love it!The only pitfalls I ran across was the cost of more amps and the active x-over.The previous post has the link to my post.
If you go to an actively biamped system you wont go back...lol!

I'm quasi-triamping my main system at the moment. I say quasi because I'm not quite sure what it technically is. I'm running the Watkins woofers in my Infinity Quantum 2s up to ~50 Hz off of a Radio Shack MPA-250 (for the power these woofers need). From ~50 Hz to ~350 Hz, I'm running the mid/bass panels of a pair of Magnepan MG-Is off of a Pioneer SX-838 (excels in this frequency range). Above 350 Hz until ~45 kHz, I'm running the 175 CM tall true ribbon element in my Flatline Design Model 175s off of a modified Sonic Impact T-amp. All the signals are currently routed in a very hap-hazard way using the variable volume output of a Sony CDP-X111ES, so every amp is receiving a full-range signal and a jury-rigged passive crossover takes care of the rest.

Despite the shortcomings that are a given in such a less than optimal setup, it sounds very good so I hope to eventually pick up a good active crossover and hear what it can really do.

Lots of good info here,a bit technical at times biggrin.gif I just had to read it a few for it to sink in.

My main system used to include a pair of B & W Matrix 805's juiced by an Anthem Amp 1. Now, the speakers I mostly listen to are a Proton 300 and 301, the 300 configured as a powered speaker like the 301. These things use an amp for each speaker, 4 drivers, 4 amps, and I'm not sure what type of bi-amping it is, but it is biamped. Sounds good. The speakers are fed from my Music Reference RM5, so there are still tubes in the signal path. The Chinese 6DJ8's have been upgraded to 2 Sylvania mil-spec 6922's and an Amperex 6922. Again, sounds good.
