Rogers LS55 - Review.

What a quest...
I tried look for more info about this model everywhere and...here's my conclusions :

These are old school built British speakers.- I think this is a Rogers model made when they think the company will go down and they grabbed everything they have and make this LS55. ohmy.gif
That's my conclusion after i open the speakers and saw this :

Wich mean that LS2A/2 were the drivers they use in this model :

Rogers LS2A/2 made by Rogers before the famous BBC LS3/5a.

Even the tweeter driver (below) are made by Rogers, contrary to LS3/5a model made by KEF.

Well, after this let say to you what i think about this mistery loudspeakers.

This is a floorstanding model rear-ported bi-wirable or bi-ampable with three drive units. Two mid-bass drivers from LS2A/2 and a 19mm tweeter coated fabric dome, damped vented enclosure.
Like all rear-ported speakers they are very sensitive about their location toward the walls. I tested the speakers in various locations and the most neutral performance was obtained 60 or 70 cm from the rear wall with no grilles.

System used :

Transport - Denon DCD 755AR.
Dac - Audio Alchemy V3.1.
Amplifier - Cyrus One.
Interconnects - Straight Wire Sonata and Qed coaxial Qed Quenex.
Speaker Cables - Qed Silver 25th Anniversary.

Cd's used :

I'd start with Nirvana's Nevermind followed - to have a lot of contrast - by The Fire Bird from Igor Stravinsky by Pierre Boulez an edition from Deusch-Gramophone, after this Fire Bird "rollercoaster" the great Bother in Arms from Dire Straits; Automatic For The People from R.E.M., Bjork, Young Gods, Primal Scream and for the last, Frank Sinatra (Duets I).

Listennings.

The Rogers LS55 are excellent loudspeakers. If you like to follow the lyrics from any song you surely can... smile.gif even if the singer is surrounded by a feast of guitars, drums or other voices. The main voice never go away and they never makes you feel with any disconfort what so ever.
The instruments are always in the right place and distante from each other in avery natural way like a live jam.
The soundstage is wide, airy and open.
The detail is magnificent. Because of that i think i must re-listen all my records again... biggrin.gif

Conclusion.

This loudspeakers carry on Rogers tradition and pedigree.
The bass is rich and weghty - if there is any bass... - and the treble clean and clear, but most impressive to me is the way the whole frequency range is held together, sounding integreted without emphasis on any part of the range.
It's an exciting listen. You can listen for hours without fatigue or stress - and that suits my ears just fine !! wink.gif

Tanx Elroy. smile.gif
What i like the most about this little review was the fact that at first i can't find anything about this Rogers model. blink.gif I think IMHO this is one of the first reviews of this model... ohmy.gif wich i think it's incredible with so much info out there...
...and off course i'm very glad to make this small review in our forum.
Rogers is not a well known loudspeaker in the US the same with Spendor, Linn or even the early KEF but they are excellent speakers with a great pedigree in a British great tradition of loudspeakers.
The only thing i will like to do with this speakers is another cabinet with a better wood composite...maybe this will be my winter project... smile.gif
BTW if you find some Roger's LS3/5a on ebay at the right price, give it a try and i tell you, you wont regret. wink.gif
